Recalls cost Ford $2.3 billion (+$800 million from the first quarter) in the April-June 2024 quarter alone, which means the Blue Oval company “lost” $25.5 million each day to repair her cars.
Ford has implemented several initiatives to improve the quality of its cars, but the results from these efforts are not immediately noticeable.
Ford attributes the increase in recall costs to cars built during the peak of the pandemic – MY2021 – and earlier, when supply chain issues and disruptions disrupted global car production.
This year Ford has issued 37 recalls affecting more than 3.5 million cars, numbers that rank it as the automaker with the most recalls. In second place follows Tesla with 8 recalls affecting 2.55 million cars and in third place Chrysler with 36 recalls affecting 2.2 million cars.
Last year Ford paid $4.8 billion to repair its cars due to recalls.
