The record-breaking blitzer paid BKK more than two million in additional fees last year

The record-breaking blitzer, a 48-year-old woman from Budapest, paid almost HUF two million in surcharges last year, the Budapest Transport Center (BKK) announced on Thursday.

The record-breaking flasher had to pay HUF 1,977,401 after more than seven years of delay. The second place in the 2024 blitzing top list was a 40-year-old man who paid a surcharge exceeding HUF 1.5 million, and a 53-year-old woman who paid off her debt of more than HUF 1.3 million was also on the podium.

But how can such a fine come together? According to the BKK’s statement, the largest sums were accumulated from several years of ignored surcharges, initiated enforcement procedures and significant late fees.

Some people believe that surcharges are automatically timed out and therefore checks are not cashed, but this is a serious mistake. The BKK will legally seize all assets for collection, and due to the protracted procedure, the initial amount may increase significantly. They also mentioned that the majority of passengers travel honestly according to their own admission: in a research conducted in 2024, 91 percent of the respondents stated that they always use BKK flights with a ticket or pass.
