FAST development of infrastructure projects in Serbia and the region, the challenges that lie ahead of us, as well as all current events in the field of engineering consulting services, are just some of the topics of the regional conference “Future trends in the construction industry”, which is being held on October 10 and 11 in Sava center in Belgrade.
Organized by the Association of Consulting Engineers of Serbia (ACES), which is also the official representative of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers FIDIC, this conference will bring together leading engineers, consultants, as well as construction and legal experts from our country, region and of Europe.
– One of the topics that will be the subject of discussion on the panels is the improvement of tender procedures with special emphasis on a sustainable way of tendering future projects – says Bojan Dinić, executive director of ACES. – In practice, this means integrating environmental protection, as well as the economic and social impact of the development of such a project and how to find the right balance between them, and this is currently one of the most current topics. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about new technologies that are available to us to support sustainable tendering and the development of new projects. Of course, we have to touch on the very current topic of the application of artificial intelligence in the development of construction projects.
According to him, one of the topics is the resolution of disputes in the construction industry using alternative available methods that can reduce the number of court cases and arbitrations:
– Here I would especially emphasize the role of CDRC, i.e. its first Center in the region for resolving disputes in construction. We founded the center in 2022 and it provides efficient, competitive and professional arbitration, adjudication and expert services specialized in the construction sector. The role of the DAB (Dispute Resolution Board) in avoiding and resolving disputes is a very current topic at the international level as well. Because of all the perceived advantages, this mechanism is being actively promoted.
Public procurement
Participants will be able to hear what is the best practice of quality-based selection in public procurement and procurement of financial institutions, but also “abuses” of the FIDIC golden principles. The role of engineers in local and regional practice, professional liability insurance, as well as the proposal of new special regulations on construction, as well as the current topic of adjusting the prices of works and building materials on projects, will be discussed.
