It has been alleged that Nurul Islam Nuru, the elder brother of Chittagong Journalist Union’s Joint General Secretary Saidul Islam, was abducted in Raujan. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Tk 20 lakh, but they released him two hours after the abduction, the family said.
According to family members, Nurul Islam Nuru was abducted on 6 to 8 motorcycles from Alimiya Hat Principal Hafizur Rahman Mazar area of Raujan Upazila at 6 pm on Saturday (December 28) and a ransom of 20 lakh taka was demanded.
But he was released around 8 pm as he recognized the abductors. Nurul Islam, who was freed from the abduction, told Nuru Azadi that 12 to 14 terrorists on 6 to 8 motorcycles abducted me from Raujan Upazila Principal Hafizur Rahman Maza area on Saturday evening.
At that time, a terrorist spat at me because I was late to get on the motorcycle. Vandalized my mobile and beat me.
He further said that he was beaten and taken a kilometer away. There took 13 thousand rupees in my pocket. Later he demanded a ransom of 20 lakhs from my family.
Family members interacted with local political leaders. Also, the family members interacted with several officials of the administration. Later under pressure and recognizing some of the abductors, Olimia was released after two hours at Ghata area of Kashem Member in Hat Bazar.
In this regard, Raujan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) AKM Safiqul Alam said that no one has complained or filed a case in the Police Station regarding the abduction of anyone. He also said that legal action will be taken by identifying those involved if complaints or cases are filed.
