The weather forecast of the Environmental Agency shows that heavy rain will reach Southern Estonia and the islands this evening, which will gradually spread across the country and may bring floods.
40-70 mm of rain is forecast tonight in southern Estonia, up to 25 mm in northern Estonia. In addition to heavy rain, strong wind and thunder are also expected.
The Rescue Board reminds people how to behave before and during a storm.
Before the storm:
* Collect objects from the yard that can be blown away by the wind.
* Park the vehicle outdoors or in the garage.
* Consider possible power outages: store enough food and drink at home.
* Get the car’s fuel tank full.
During a storm:
* Stay indoors.
* Do not drive. If driving is unavoidable, choose a suitable driving speed and take into account trees or other obstacles that may fall on the road.
* Stay away from downed power lines. Report them to Elektrilevi’s emergency telephone number 1343, and report life-threatening situations to Häirekeskus at number 112.
* In case of human injuries and breakages causing immediate danger, call the emergency number 112.
In the event of a power outage, the rescue service recommends notifying the power companies and using a battery-powered flashlight as a light source rather than candles. In order to obtain additional forecasts and behavioral instructions, the rescue service recommends using e.g. batteries or a car radio in this case.
The weather service warns that heavy rain will reach southern Estonia and the islands tonight, which will spread over the land, and there will be thunder in some places. By midnight, the amount of rain in southern Estonia will reach up to 25 mm. Very heavy rain will continue in many places on the night of July 29 and sometimes also during the day, the threat of thunder remains. By Monday morning, the approximate amount of accumulated precipitation is 40-70 mm in Southern Estonia, 25-50 in Central Estonia, up to 25 mm in Northern Estonia and the islands.
Also, late in the evening in South-West Estonia, the north and northwest wind will strengthen 12, gust 18 m/s, at night the north and northwest wind will continue elsewhere, in Eastern Estonia the north-east wind will strengthen 12, gust 18, along the Gulf of Livi 15-20, gust up to 27 m/s s.
