The rickshaw carrying the body of martyr Ghulam Nafiz in the anti-discrimination movement will be kept as a memorial in the July Uprising Memorial Museum, said the Adviser of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Information and Broadcasting. Nahid Islam.
He said this when he came to see the rickshaw carrying Nafiz’s body at Ganabhaban on Thursday.
While handing over the rickshaw at Ganabhaban, he thanked the rickshaw puller Noor Mohammad for his bravery and assured financial assistance.
In view of the news published in Daily Prothom Alo on November 5 titled ‘Nuru has sold the rickshaw where Nafiz’s frozen body was lying’, Adviser Nahid Islam immediately instructed the officials of his office to find the rickshaw and the rickshaw driver. According to the advisor’s instructions, when the rickshaw driver Noor Mohammad alias Nuru was contacted, he said that he sold it (rickshaw) to London resident Ahsanul Kabir Siddiqui Kaiser for 35,000 taka.
Later, when Ahsanul Kabir Siddiqui was contacted, he expressed his desire to hand over the rickshaw to the July Uprising Memorial Museum. The rickshaw was accordingly handed over to Special Assistant to the Joint-Convener and Principal Adviser of the July Uprising Memorial Museum, Mahfuz Alam.
It is to be noted that Golam Nafiz, a student of Banani Vidyaniketan School and College, was shot dead under the pedestrian-bridge of Farmgate on August 4 at around 4:30 pm during the anti-discrimination student movement. When the police lifted the shot Nafiz on the foot of the rickshaw, he was still holding the rickshaw rod with his hands. The rickshaw puller took him to the hospital but he did not survive. Later, the picture of this rickshaw made the whole Bangladesh cry.
