Minister of Regional Affairs and Agriculture Piret Hartman (SDE) writes in response to Äripäav’s editorial that his ministry is analyzing the privatization of Eesti Post through the stock exchange, but it will not happen before 2026.
Eesti Post as a company has great potential, but in addition to the further development of business opportunities, the most important thing from the state’s point of view is to implement public services. This is to provide a universal postal service consistently, with high quality and for an affordable fee.
I am satisfied with the company’s existing results. As of August 1, Eesti Post had 44 post offices, 368 parcel machines and 50 post offices. In rural areas, the service is also provided through a personal postal service. I am glad that the company has implemented a strategy that enables it to fulfill its obligations to the state.
And the latter is crucial for regional development. The Council of Eesti Post operates transparently and effectively. It consists of experts with a wide range of competences, under whose leadership the company has significantly expanded and developed.
Of course, we can say that in certain regional aspects, the changes have perhaps been painfully felt, but at the same time, alternatives have also been implemented that work, but definitely need getting used to.
I also recognize the bold steps taken by Eesti Post’s brand Omniva both for entering international markets and for introducing innovation – for example, postal refrigerators and innovative access points.
We are considering the options
