The Riigikogu held extraordinary elections for two vice-speakers: Toomas Kivimägi remains the first vice-speaker; Arvo Aller was elected as the second vice-speaker, the press release reports.
The elections were held in connection with the departure of the second vice-speaker of parliament, Jüri Ratas, to the post of member of the European Parliament.
The chairman of the Conservative People’s Party of Estonia faction, Martin Helme, nominated Arvo Aller; the chairman of the Reform Party faction, Erkki Keldo, nominated Toomas Kivimägi; and the chairman of the Isamaa faction, Helir-Valdor Seeder, nominated Urmas Reinsalu.
In the secret ballot, Aller received 20 votes, Kivimägi – 58, Reinsalu – 17. Thus, Toomas Kivimägi was elected First Vice-Speaker of the Riigikogu, and Arvo Aller – Second Vice-Speaker.
96 members of parliament took part in the secret ballot; one ballot was declared invalid.
