Bigger, more imposing and with the hope of continuing to improve. This is how they designed the dress of the Chimes of this year Cristina Pedroche and Josiewho has served as creative director of the presenter’s big night for ten years.
On this occasion, the duo has needed to change location and leave the traditional balcony of Madrid’s Puerta del Sol to be able to wear a dress of large proportions in which the millinery brand VIVASCARRION and Belén Mozas, creator of the millinery brand, have participated. jewelry Dying of love.
The latter has been in charge of transform the drops of breast milk into more than 8,000 crystals that Pedroche kept during his breastfeeding. In this way, the presenter and Josie wanted to send a message about child protection in collaboration with UNICEFwith whom they have collaborated this year.
Just one day before the Chimes, this is how Josie explained what the process of creating look this year and how he faces criticism ten years later.
After UNHCR or Greenpeace, this year you have collaborated with UNICEF, how did this collaboration come about?
UNHCR and Greenpeace are two friendly platforms that have been able to experience the enormous echo created by the bells to spread messages, to reach people, to make them think or dream of a better outlook for everyone. The enormous media focus created by this event not only serves to disseminate Spanish art and fashion talent, but also to launch powerful messages that change the world and help raise awareness. Therefore, in view of the good experience, we dared to propose to UNICEF Spain a joint launch of a message through the symbology contained in the glassed breast milk that adorns the entire dress.
“The enormous media focus created by this event not only serves to disseminate Spanish art and fashion talent, but also to launch powerful messages that change the world and help raise awareness”
Putting children at the center of a moment like the Chimes 2025 with the help of UNICEF Spain is an opportunity to raise awareness among the people who were going to follow this moment about the importance of protecting children against any type of violence. , abuse or exploitation. All of this, through the symbology contained in Cristina’s breast milk enclosed in each of the crystals that make up this dress. chandelier that explodes thanks to the more than forty nipples that spit out glassy breast milk. It is light, it is positivity, it is fantasy, it is high quality and it is haute millinery made into a suit.
Is it important for you to take advantage of the platform and audience you have to give visibility to certain causes?
For me it is very important to bring aesthetic renewal, of team, of message… Bring the best every year to the Campanadas but above all take advantage of the immeasurable media focus that is the event to enlighten the general public, make known and promote so many designers, artists, artisans, photographers, jewelers and all kinds of collaborators with whom we have the honor of counting on the chimes.
As a fashion and lifestyle journalist, as a popularizer it is very important not to miss this opportunity that has been important for so many who have passed through Puerta del Sol through our hands throughout this decade.
How did the idea of using Cristina Pedroche’s breast milk come about?
Only Belén Mazas, creator of Morir de Amor, can answer this question. During her years as a jewelry student, she decided to investigate how to crystallize this body fluid to develop jewelry. It is a gem reminder that, given the reserve of milk derived from Cristina’s first breastfeeding, we have been able to bring to this year’s dress.
Was it important for you and Cristina to represent the before and after that motherhood has meant in your life?
The ten dresses that I have brought to Puerta del Sol these ten years speak of moments in our lives, of intersecting stories, of moments in the world and the vision we have of these events, of trends or desires, inspiration, fantasy and also whim.
“The use of the drops of breast milk that Cristina kept in the decorative elements of the dress can be understood as an artistic and creative way to illustrate a message as important as the need to protect children.”
We have been changing throughout them and I will tell you more: we are totally different people than we were in 2014 because life has changed us, it has filled us with successes not only in this event but on other vital levels, we have met important objectives and life has passed… Time changes you, fame too, a lot. What has not changed is the enthusiasm to give the best of ourselves in the Bells, which are loaded with touches of truth and experiences, which is why it was normal to talk about motherhood, about this experience and being able to launch a global message from a particular point of view.
That is why the connection with UNICEF Spain makes the dress gain meaning. Breast milk protects babies from birth, especially during the first six months if they drink it exclusively, and up to two years of age by complementing it with other foods. We know that it helps prevent gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases, and also promotes cognitive development, among many other benefits. In that sense, the use of the drops of breast milk that Cristina preserved in the decorative elements of the dress can be understood as an artistic and creative way to illustrate a message as important as the need to protect children.
After so many years doing the Chimes, how do you manage to reinvent yourself and how do you face criticism?
Well, the roar of day one knocks me out! Imagine this year with the #stopgirls or the #freethenipple or whatever they want to shout… Anything is going to happen and thank goodness I can go to my bunker at Villa Josie, between my library and the garden, that lung where I can find myself again.
“The roar of day one knocks me out! Imagine this year with #stopmeninas or #freethenipple or whatever you want to shout…”
Cicero said that everyone who has a library and a garden has everything they need in life, that’s why I take refuge at home to reset myself and be able to wait for the visit of the swallows for another year… Whatever happens I will try to isolate myself in Villa Josie, my place in the world, where criticism is endured in a better way and is seen with the right importance it has: minimal importance.
