The presidential candidates who finished 9th and 12th – Cristian Terhes and Sebastian Constantin Popescu – requested the annulment of the election results from the vested body.
In their warning, they both accused the independent candidate Calin Georgescu, who finished in first place and campaigned on social media, of illegal campaign financing.
Terhes also made it to the second round – ahead of the third-placed Social Democrat Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu by only 2,740 votes – Elena Lasconi, the candidate of the Save Romania Association (USR), also defended the result by citing a breach of campaign silence.
The Constitutional Court also meets on Friday.
