The four largest opposition parties, according to the Central Election Commission, collectively gain about 37%: “Coalition for Change” receives 10.8% of the votes, “United National Movement” – 10.1%, “Strong Georgia” – 8.8%, “ Gakharia for Georgia” – 7.8%.
Preliminarily, Georgian Dream will receive 88 of the 150 seats in parliament. This will not be enough for a constitutional majority, but it will be enough to form a government.
The “Coalition for Change” and the “United National Movement” announced on the evening of October 26 that they did not recognize the election results, called them a “constitutional coup” and announced “permanent” protests starting on Sunday. Later, Strong Georgia joined the statement.
The elections in Georgia were seen by many experts and participating politicians as a choice for voters between rapprochement with Russia (Georgian Dream) and the European Union (opposition).
Georgian Dream, founded by businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili, has been in power in Georgia since 2012.
