Anyone who undertakes military service in the Russian army while criminal proceedings against him are automatically exempted from all charges – the relevant laws have just been signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
There is also an exemption for those who have been convicted but have not yet started serving their prison sentence.
The Russian government has already pardoned thousands of criminals who served at least six months in the fighting in Ukraine. The released criminals terrorize the Russian population with brutal crimes in more than one case, and many of them have been imprisoned again.
Since the beginning of the war, the mass pardon granted to criminals has been one of the most unpopular decisions of the Russian government among the population.
