The Russian government has determined a list of regions in which cryptocurrency mining will be partially or completely limited.
From December 1, 2024 to March 15, 2025, a ban on mining will be introduced in a number of cities and districts of the Irkutsk region, Buryatia and Trans-Baikal Territory. Subsequently, the ban will be introduced every year from November 15 to March 15 until 2031. This is due to the high load on the network in winter.
In the Karachay-Cherkess, Kabardino-Balkarian Republics, North Ossetia – Alania, Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, DPR and LPR, it is proposed to introduce a complete ban on mining from December 1, 2024 to March 15, 2031.
The main purpose of these bans is to force miners to move to other regions with excess energy capacity.
It is worth noting that the ban has not yet been officially introduced, which was confirmed by the heads of Ingushetia and North Ossetia. (Kommersant)
