The Russians will probably lose the gold. Ustugov failed in court, the doping penalty applies – Winter sports

Former Russian biathlete Yevgeny Ustyugov has failed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne to appeal the annulment of his results from the 2013/14 season.

It means that the Russians may lose the relay gold from the Sochi Olympics, but the change in the results list must be confirmed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The Biathlon Integrity Unit (BIU) filed a proposal to cancel the results, as Ustyugov was unable to explain the high level of hemoglobin in the blood in the 2013 samples.

Usťugov also has a gold medal from the Olympics in Vancouver from the mass start race, in which Slovak representative Pavol Hurajt won bronze.

He was also part of the bronze relay at these games. These results remain valid. The news was published by the official website of the International Biathlon Union (IBU).
