Have you ever thought about starting from scratch when you get stuck? Say stop and make everything be like the first day, when it was good? That seems to be the winning formula for Dragos BocaiManaging Director Mediascope, when creativity no longer pays off.
“I personally have a creative approach to any situation, related to any subject, I have this ability to see everything from a creative perspective and I try never to get stuck. Creativity is not trained to increase it, it exists in you at a maximum potential, you just have to train your courage to express it”, says Dragoș.
He draws his inspiration from travels and all kinds of situations that take him out of his comfort zone. Try to work from creative environments and surround yourself with people who make an effort to be different. Among the creative fields of recent years for him are specialty cafes, bakeries or urban events.
Personal definition of creativity
A creative person is that person who thinks atypically and generates ideas and concepts that draw in and break out of normal patterns. Creativity is like a fountain, like a spring that is constantly fed. From my point of view creativity is a 6th sense. It is something that exists within you and manifests itself 24/7, it cannot be stopped, it is effervescent and wants to be allowed to express itself continuously. For me, creativity is a precious gift, it is a defining feature of a person.
How the perspective on creativity has changed
I learned to let it surface. There is some tendency to self-censor because interesting things have critics, but creativity defines your actions and vision. Once you understand this, your perspective changes. At the same time I learned to appreciate it, I am surrounded by creative people and that motivates me.
What does creativity depend on?
Of course, there are things that condition the manifestation of creativity: starting from the constraints imposed by the project, by the client, the yield and the creative effect can decrease. The safe zone and the known road are the routes that make you less creative. The important thing is to find the place where creativity is appreciated and wanted, then there are no limits.
Habits, shortcuts, recipes
Yes, I listen to music all the time, I create a creative environment for myself, I hang out in environments that are creative, in Bucharest and beyond, there is already a culture for that. At the same time creativity is invoked when you are in the right environment, with similar people, it is a silent amplification.
What the experience brought
It’s definitely a lot easier now than it was 10-15 years ago. Information is 1 click away, we have a lot of freedom of movement and that helps enormously. Documentation can be done much easier, at the same time experience (years, projects, managed situations) enriches your knowledge and at the same time you have the information that helps you reach solutions quickly.
How do you train your creativity?
Well it’s simple, I go to “training” every day. It’s like performance sports. I personally have a creative approach to any situation, related to any topic, I have this ability to see everything from a creative perspective and I try to never get stuck. Creativity is not trained to increase it, it exists in you at full potential, you just have to train the courage to express it.
Sources of inspiration
I was waiting for this question. Inspiration is everywhere if you look for it. When we have a creative perspective in seeing things around us, inspiration surrounds us. Of course, specifically, I also follow people, brands, fairs, activities and trends that I consider to be relevant, with which I resonate and take things that inspire me and I like.
I travel a lot and look for atypical experiences, so I get out of my comfort zone and most of the time I discover things that inspire me and that I integrate into my personal creativity. I go to as many profile events as possible and not only, any event where creativity is required and manifests itself without limits.
Sources of inspiration online
Here again there are no limits, I really like to watch movies in which there is a very good scenography, movies in which the quality of the actors and their way of interpretation makes a difference, they inspire me a lot and charge my batteries of creative courage. I really like to watch what creative agencies and people who are role models for me are doing, I watch a lot and how we can use technology to implement creativity in our projects, it’s something I’m very interested in.
The obstacles to creativity
The comfort zone, the lack of courage, the authority that can impose this in a project. The things imposed and executory. Limited views and stubbornness.
What happens when you have stuck moments
A good friend taught me a recipe that works all the time – going back to t 0, the time when things were working. So this is my recipe and I recommend it with confidence. You have the courage to say stop and go back to where you started and it was good. It is part of your evolution and makes you stronger.
AI, Social Media and Creativity
I see them as tools that we can use to express our creativity. It’s the trend of the moment, technology and these communication mediums and tools are there and will be with us for a long time to come, we have to accept that and make use of them. Social media is the medium that has allowed all people to be creative, to become actors in their own movie, some do it very well. Without this environment, they might not have discovered that they are creative and talented. If we look at it from this angle it is a wonderful thing. There is also the flip side of course, there is always a balance in the Universe.
AI is something that will speed up all processes, known creativity will be stored and replicated better and better, but this human ability to be creative will always remain perfect and capable of new things impossible to replicate and anticipate by technology .
The creative fields of recent years
If we are discussing Romania, I am glad that many fields have become creative, it is a necessary action and a competitive advantage. Let’s take some examples that were traditionally quite limited and standard from this point of view: the culture of specialty cafes as a place of manifestation (even creative) of a local community, the culture of urban events in big cities that are defined by creative activities already , the culture of artisan bakeries and local catering businesses.
Do you have a role model?
Architecture – Frank Lloyd Wright
Scenography / Film – Patrice Vermette
Music – Hans Zimmer
Fashion – Tom Ford
Local agency – Mc Cann
Global Agency – Mc Cann
Tool-uri creative
I personally do not use and do not believe in such short cuts, as I said initially, my belief is that you are born with maximum creative potential and you only work to let it surface. The tools and devices we use help us to document ourselves and stay up to date with information and current situations, this helps and is very useful.
