Euro NCAP has revealed the Best in Class cars, namely the safest models it tested in 2024. In 2024, five cars from China, Germany and Japan set the standard for vehicle safety.
Best-in-class score winners include the Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Passat, Mazda CX-80 and Zeekr X. The best performance was set by the new-generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which topped the overall safety score of cars tested in 2023.
The winner of the best overall safety performance in the 2024 Euro NCAP tests was the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. This model achieved the best overall score, a weighted average of the four safety categories that Euro NCAP experts assesses: Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable User Protection (Pedestrians and Cyclists) and Safety Assist Technologies.
Out of 44 cars tested, 20 were SUVs
Small SUVs dominated the year, with 20 of the 44 cars tested by Euro NCAP coming from this class, highlighting people’s continued demand for this type of car.
The top-ranked model in the small SUV class was the Zeekr X, which outperformed competing vehicles from European manufacturers. However, right behind it were Deepal’s new S07, Porsche Macan, Cupra Tavascan, MG HS, Toyota C-HR, Volvo EX30 and Xpeng G6. The Zeekr X also won the Best in Class award for the safest pure electric car of 2024.
Another important class of 2024 was that of large class SUVs. Euro NCAP tested six seven-seat vehicles in this category. The Mazda CX-80 has been named the best contender in this class for 2024, scoring a narrow victory against the Audi Q6 e-tron.
In the large family car class, the best-in-class score was achieved by the Volkswagen Passat and its sibling, the Skoda Superb. The two vehicles, built on the same platform, offered the same top safety performance.
