Martina Navratilova attacked an LGBTQ group for classes for children aged 13 and younger, wrote the The Telegraph.
The nine-time Wimbledon champion criticized the Norwich-based LGBTQ+ Project, which works with schools in Norfolk and Waveney. Navratilova, who is openly attracted to her own gender, shared a post on X criticizing the charity’s partnership with the Acle Academy.
Let’s just let kids be kids
– wrote the tennis player in a post published on her social media page.
A Gay Not Queer post shared by Navratilova included a poster from the Norfolk LGBT+ Project, which advertised a “drop-in session” for an under-13 LGBTQ+ youth group. According to the post:
This group provides a safe, supportive space for LGBTQ+ children under the age of 13 and those questioning their sexuality or gender identity.
Navratilova has been campaigning for gay rights for decades, but at the same time she is a critic of some elements of gender ideology. She opposed the inclusion of female-identified men in women’s sports and criticized the idea that transgender women could be considered lesbians.
According to Gay Not Queer’s post about the Norfolk LGBTQ+ Project:
This ‘groups for all ages’ charity published booklets on modern day child abuse.
The LGBTQ+ Project is a registered charity founded in 2007 to provide mental health and wellbeing support to LGBTQ+ people of all ages. The LGBTQ+ Project also offers training to support LGBTQ+ individuals.
The organization did not comment on the tweets or Navratilova’s comment.
