The Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 could be released much sooner than we expected

Although we are dealing with a “young” product, the history of the smart ring Samsung Galaxy Ring is already very crowded: the accessory was teased by the South Korean manufacturer during the launch event of the Galaxy S24 series, held in January of this year, to then make an appearance at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February and finally launch internationally in mid-summer 2024 in July. Moreover, users from our country still had an additional stage to go through, Galaxy Ring being launched in Romania only towards the end of the year, in November 2024.

Even in the conditions described above, with a device just launched in certain regions, Samsung seems to be already preparing the appearance of its successor, if we were to take a series of fresh rumors for granted. More specifically, the bad mouths say that Samsung is preparing the launch of a Galaxy Ring 2, which will make its appearance earlier in 2025 than the first generation did in 2024.

Released simultaneously with the Galaxy S25?

In keeping with this schedule, the Galaxy Ring 2 would be announced right at the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for January 22, 2025. Initially thought of as a launch event for the South Korean manufacturer’s new Galaxy S25 flagship smartphone series, this Galaxy Unpacked could serve more than one purpose, with hints that Samsung might also be preparing a concurrent launch for its new XR headset.

Thus, the eventual appearance of the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 at Galaxy Unpacked should not be a surprise to anyone. The second generation of the Galaxy Ring is rumored to come in two additional sizes to accommodate thicker fingers. Initially, the rumor about the two additional sizes would have referred to new models from the already existing Galaxy Ring range, but now it is believed that it will be a completely new device. It seems that Samsung needs these extra dimensions for the Galaxy Ring 2 to better compete with the smart ring offering from another competitor, Oura, a year ago.

Obviously, a second generation of Samsung’s smart rings would benefit from advantages over its predecessors: the Galaxy Ring 2 would promise more accurate sensors for retrieving and interpreting information related to the wearer’s health, as well as improved AI functionality. Battery life should be at least seven days regardless of the size you choose. At the moment, nothing is known about the possible inclusion of NFC support on this device, a feature that could prove really useful.
