BELGRADE – The SBB Foundation donated a new sports field to the Elementary School “Sonja Marinković” in Zemun, thus continuing its long-term engagement in supporting youth development and preserving and improving the environment.
At the ceremonial opening of the court in the courtyard of the school in Vovođanska street number 1, a mini exhibition basketball game was played between the SBB basketball team and sports journalists from the Sport Club and experts in all basketball competitions, after which the members of the school team took their first basketball steps in front of the cameras.
The event was supported by celebrities, among them Borko Vujičić-Bora and Stefan Gligorijević from THCF, who sang the basketball anthem “Play and win”. The program was led by the well-known Sport Club journalist Ilija Kovačić, and she addressed the audience in front of the SBB Foundation Jovana Lukić, Director of SBB Foundation and CSR Director of United Group:
“It was a pleasure for us to respond to the invitation of the elementary school “Sonja Marinković” and to donate to the students a field for basketball, handball and indoor soccer that will be able to be used by current and future generations. With this gesture, we want to contribute to a healthier environment and affirmation of outdoor activities, because the younger generations are undoubtedly less and less physically active. This is the 24th playground and the 20th city where we set it up as part of our eco-platform “Don’t get dirty. You have no excuse!”. For the first time, we donated a field for sports, but the message is always the same: we give it away with joy and at the same time teach children and remind adults to preserve it for themselves and for new generations”.
The donation consists of a fully equipped sports court, including baskets and handball goals, which will enable the school’s students to improve their physical abilities, be encouraged to spend more time outside and participate in different activities.
“I want to thank the SBB Foundation, but also the parents of the students of this school who connected us and made it possible for this cooperation to be realized to the joy of all our students and residents of this part of Zemun. We got a sports field that the children will enjoy using and develop their talents”, said Jasmina Filipović, director of the “Sonja Marinković” elementary school.
