Last season’s champion Metalurg Magnitogorsk received the highest amount among KHL clubs.

As reported by the allhockey.ru portal, the KHL board of directors approved a record amount for the clubs, dividing exactly 1.175 billion rubles (11.64 million euros) between them.

The basis for calculating the specific amounts for the clubs is the income from the sale of television rights and rights from bookmakers, gambling royalties and funds allocated by the league.

From the 2023/24 season, the distribution of money between the clubs is as follows: 30 percent of the total amount will be divided between the clubs according to the assessment of sporting achievements.

70 percent according to ten indicators, among which are the costs of the sports result, compliance with regulations, attendance and occupancy of stadiums or services for spectators.

According to published data, this year’s KHL champion Metalurg Magnitogorsk received the largest payment, namely 106.45 million rubles (1.05 million euros). It is followed by Lokomotiv Yaroslavl with 92.03 million rubles (912,000 euros) and SKA St. Petersburg with 66.35 million rubles (656,000 euros).

These amounts may seem quite low even considering that the annual salaries of the best hockey players in the competition are at the level of 100 million rubles.

“Clubs are recommended to use the obtained funds to improve conditions for players, modernize the infrastructure of the arena, improve services for spectators and organize entertainment events in the region where the club operates,” wrote allhockey.ru.

The KHL will also allocate another 99 million rubles (981,000 euros) for children’s and youth sports: the funds will go to schools of MHL youth clubs that are not part of the KHL club structure, and independent hockey schools.
