They fought well and led for a long time, but this time the women’s handball team lost to France in the second warm-up match between the two teams in Tremblay-en-France.

The two teams also played against each other in Toulon on Thursday, then captain Vladimir Golovin’s team – which is preparing for the European Championship, which is partly organized at home – won 30-27, thus defeating the French again after 14 years.

This time, the French scored the first goal – the home team never led once on Thursday – and with their much more accurate finishing than two days earlier, they did not let Zsófi Szemerey, who was defending sensationally at the time, blink. With the improvement of the defense, Szemerey also got involved, this resulted in a ten-minute French silence, the Hungarian national team reversed with a 5-0 series and went ahead 12-8, from where the world champions were able to limit themselves to one goal until the break.

The French goalkeeper change was very successful

The second half began with Szemerey’s penalty save – it was the third French seven-meter shot that he was able to save – five minutes of the game, which started at a slower pace than in the first half, trickled down when the hosts took back the lead (16-15); there were a lot of mistakes from both sides in this period, and the substitute Floriane André – in the end the goalkeeper finished with 13 saves – felt the Hungarian shots very well.

Even though the French led 19-17, the sides reached the start with an equal score, while the Hungarian team mainly got a chance for those who got few playing minutes in the first match. At the last six minutes, the score was still tied (22-22), but from there only the French team scored.

Szemerey blocked eight French attempts, and substitute goalkeeper Anna Bukovszky five. Before the Hungarian-Austrian-Swiss co-organized continental tournament from November 28 to December 15, Vladimir Golovin’s team will play a warm-up match against the Slovak and Ukrainian national teams in Tatabánya.
