The senator chosen by Donald Trump as vice president will be “a disaster” for Ukraine and the EU

The election of Donald Trump for the position of US vice president represents a disaster for Ukraine and the EU. A senior European official made the statement to Politico. Among other things, candidate JD Vance is campaigning to reduce US support for Ukraine.

Republican Donald Trump has chosen JD Vance as his vice presidential running mate. Experts believe that Vance has a populist mentality, similar to that of Donald Trump, but also some views that are causing concern in Europe, according to Sky News.

JD Vance has voiced his opposition to US support for Ukraine and played a key role in lawmakers’ attempt to overturn a bill that included $60 billion in military aid to Kiev.

A senior European Union official told Politico that the Ohio senator’s election spells “disaster” for Ukraine and, by extension, the EU.

At the Munich Security Conference earlier this year, Vance skipped a meeting with top Ukrainian officials and told the audience that the US should reassess its support for Ukraine. He also criticized what he called Europe’s over-dependence on Washington for security and said he did not believe Vladimir Putin posed an “existential threat” to the continent.

In addition, Vance said that the US should focus “more on East Asia”, which will be “the future of American foreign policy for the next 40 years”.
