JUSTICE – The deadline is getting closer for the former French head of state. Currently on trial during the trial of suspicions of Libyan financing of his 2007 campaign, former President of the Republic Nicolas Sarkozy will soon know more about the conditions of the electronic bracelet that he will soon have to wear.

This Friday, January 10, the Paris public prosecutor’s office requested the sentencing judge to determine the terms of this bracelet that Nicolas Sarkozy will have to wear after having been definitively sentenced on December 18 to one year in prison in the the so-called wiretapping affair.

As the public prosecutor indicated this Friday in a press release, this is the first step in the procedure which should lead to the installation of his bracelet. The Paris sentence enforcement judge must now set a summons date for the former head of state.

During this meeting, the former head of state must provide supporting documents that the judge will examine in order to determine the location of the summons (his home) and the release times, during the week and on weekends. . Then, the sentence enforcement judge will have to issue an order which sets these terms, a decision against which Nicolas Sarkozy cannot appeal. It will also determine the date of the installation of this famous bracelet.

Thierry Herzog and Gilbert Azibert also concerned

In its press release, the public prosecutor’s office also indicated that it had referred the matter to the sentence enforcement judge in Paris concerning Mr. Thierry Herzog, Nicolas Sarkozy’s historic lawyer, and that of Bordeaux for Gilbert Azibert, a former senior magistrate. The two men were sentenced alongside the former president, with the same sentence: one year in prison under an electronic bracelet.

As a reminder, on December 18, the Court of Cassation rejected Nicolas Sarkozy’s appeal, making his conviction for corruption and influence peddling final to three years’ imprisonment, including one year spent under an electronic bracelet. He was also sentenced to three years of ineligibility.

As the procedure for executing this sentence is underway, the former French leader is not yet wearing his bracelet. This is why he was able to go on vacation to the Seychelles, with his wife, singer Carla Bruni, and their daughter. Images of these holidays, shared by Nicolas Sarkozy’s daughter on social networks, caused some incomprehension during the end-of-year celebrations. However, he had every right to fly more than 7,000 kilometers from the mainland since the terms of his sanction had not yet been established.
