Cinemascope Festival takes place this year between August 1-11, in the summer garden in Eforie Sud, reopened 6 years ago, with the appearance of this project. In 2024, Cinemascop returns with an intense and complex program, with activities and events for all ages, tastes and curiosities. All of these are free to attend.
The seventh edition has a special theme, which proposes the discovery of European cultures. Nine of the eleven days of the festival are dedicated to each country, with a program made together with partner cultural institutes and embassies. Thus, two new elements appeared in this year’s program. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste culinary dishes from Turkey, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and France, not before participating in the sports activities prepared, for the first time at Cinemascop, outside the summer garden, on the beach (Moon Beach area). Also, a fifth community meal, this time in the form of a performance, will take place on August 9, a creation of teenagers from the CEVA Performing Arts Educational Center.
Of course, the film screenings will be indispensable, with them culminating the summer evenings at the festival. Starting at 9:00 p.m., the screen will light up with comedy, adventure, romance, or drama films, all offered by the members of the cluster of European cultural institutes, EUNIC Romania. Except that in two of the evenings at the festival, music will become the focal point, because on August 3 the summer garden is celebrating – and not anyway, but quietly, at a silent disco party. Then, on August 9, the audience will enjoy a concert by the trio Maria Grosu Grundová & 10 strings, who will delight with a series of well-known songs from beloved prestigious films.
The summer garden opens every day at 18:00, because that’s when the activities start one after another. Various workshops await visitors of all ages, both recurring and special. Participants will be able to paint, make collages, comics, sock and sand toys, or learn how to use recyclable materials in creative ways. Special workshops challenge you to discover more about disinformation, learn the technique of cyanotype or graffiti, or enjoy theater and improvisation exercises. The festival’s partner, Generali, has prepared surprise gifts for workshop participants, and the Czech brand Koh-I-Noor Hardtmuth supports the educational creative workshops for children this year as well.
The space can also be visited as such, it is a relaxing place where you can, for example, listen to music specific to the countries featured every day. Against this backdrop, you can see the prepared contemporary art exhibitions that will welcome you from the entrance and take you through the entire garden to the former ticket office, which is currently the micro-gallery 1mp Gallery. You’ll even be able to take your art home from the Art Machine, or watch the art in the making outside in the garden, where artists Maria Zurbagiu and Reinier Landwehr will create a 140 square meter mural. The latter, of Dutch origin, participates in the festival with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
