A shocking moment has been captured in a video that is doing the rounds on the internet of a police officer saving a child just before he was hit by a train.
The unprecedented incident happened in California, USA, when an off-duty police officer rushed to a car stuck on the railway tracks and pulled the child out, seconds before a commercial train dragged him for tens of meters before finally stopping.
Trapped in the lines
As seen in the video, a white car is “trapped” on the train tracks when a man is thrown from the back car as he runs to get a child out of the back seat.
Luckily for him, the back door on the child’s side is already open with the man who turns out to be an off-duty police officer grabbing him from inside the vehicle and taking him away to safety.
A few seconds later, the passing train drags the car causing significant damage.

As he said after the incident, he was returning from work and found himself waiting behind the vehicle in question for them to cross the railroad tracks. He suddenly became aware of panic and then realized that while the bar had come down the white car had remained on the tracks.
He was begging for help
Inside the car was a mother with two children, who rushed to get one child out as the second child could be heard crying out for help.
“There were some brain processes going on in my mind, trying to realize what exactly was going on. Instinctively I jumped out and ran to get the child,” confessed the hero police officer who noticed the mother screaming in panic that her child was in the car.
The ending was happy for the child, while the policeman was rewarded for his act.
