The smartphone market is growing. Customers are attracted by one thing

The world of technology does not sleep and companies present one product after another. The number of smartphones sold has been growing for some time, but there have been no major changes. The market could be swayed by the latest implementation artificial intelligence. It’s a battle between Samsung and Apple at the top, but we can’t underestimate smaller Chinese brands in the future either. Market overview brings company IDC.

The market again recorded an increase

In the second quarter of 2024, the smartphone market grew worldwide o 6.5 %. This is the fourth quarter in a row that he has recorded visible increase. During this period, up to 285.4 million units of smartphones were sold. Competition between market leaders is also increasing. Apple is fighting with Samsung, and the Chinese brands are slowly catching up, but at the same time they are trying to overtake each other.

Also the average price increased devices sold. It is assumed that s by implementing AI the market will grow like never before. Technologies supported by artificial intelligence should take up to 19% of this year’s market.

Xiaomi is slowly catching up with Apple

After the second quarter of this year, Samsung placed in the first place sales ranking. It was helped by the recently revised AI strategy, and it has an 18.9% market share of global sales. In second place is located Apple, with 15.8%. It is doing better in China and other key regions. Third place occupied Xiaomi. With a 14.8% market share, it is not far from overtaking Apple, but it is not likely yet. Brands Vivo a Oppo they are very similar. While Vivo reached 9.1%, Oppo has only 0.1% less. The successful expansion outside of China is responsible for their increase.

Later this year, the ranking will probably see bigger changes, precisely thanks to products with AI. Previous trends that drove sales were e.g. 5G and jigsaw puzzles. The Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, along with the iPhone 16, which will be released later this year, will battle for customer interest with the help of artificial intelligence.
