The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset is qualified for up to 8 years of software support

All have undergone significant improvements on the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with impressive se CPU, GPU and AI performance. But that’s not all, Christopher Patrick, Qualcomm’s SVP and GM, announced that the Snapdragon 8 Elite supports 8 years of Android OS updates. Qualcomm creates new ways for manufacturers to extend software support and is able to work with phone manufacturers to offer the greatest software support to end users.

So, for those who spend a lot of money on premium phones and don’t plan to upgrade anytime soon, these next-gen flagships might suit their tastes perfectly. There are a lot of people who don’t upgrade every year, so the new Snapdragon platform looks great in their own eyes, as most key features will either be software-only or AI-based. Keep in mind that Qualcomm isn’t the one promising 8 years of Android OS updates, it’s just building an infrastructure and proper hardware support to help manufacturers offer more software support.

Currently, most devices come with about 2 major Android OS updates, although more devices now have 3 years of support. Samsung and Google go even further with 7 years of software support. Unlike Google, Samsung’s flagship will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite, so there’s a chance that the Galaxy S25 series will debut with 8 years of Android OS updates.
