The Society of Journalists and Staff of (SJPL) welcomes the governance agreement strengthening its rights, signed this Thursday, July 18, 2024, with the management of the newspaper and that of the holding company, Presse Indépendante, chaired by Denis Olivennes.
After lengthy negotiations, the SJPL obtained:
– strengthened rights in Release via the establishment of a strategic committee, which will be consulted on structural decisions
– information rights at the holding company level, as well as a right of offer in the event of a capital change in Presse Indépendante, which is added to the right of pre-emption and approval from which it benefits in Release.
At the same time, the SJPL reaffirmed its commitment and its obligations to the highest ethical standards, through its long-term membership in an independent body, currently the Council for Journalistic Ethics and Mediation (CDJM), included in the agreement.
Four years after the creation of the endowment fund, this new agreement strengthens the independence of the editorial staff of Releasea welcome step forward in a national context that is worrying for journalists’ societies, which are too poorly protected.
