It warmed up in parts of Slovenia already yesterday, but the warm air brought by the south-west has not yet reached all the valleys.
The southwesterly wind already blew over most of the lowlands yesterday, and it warmed up significantly, the RS Environment Agency (Arso) announced. Thus, they measured 14 degrees Celsius in Bela Krajina. In the north of the country, on the other hand, it remained “relatively calm, so the warm air hasn’t reached the valleys yet.”
Cloudiness is spreading from Primorska towards central Slovenia today, while the southwest is strengthening. “The morning vertical sounding over Ljubljana was interesting. At ground level, the temperature was still around 0 °C, and there was a pronounced temperature inversion higher up. The top of the first inversion layer was at an altitude of about 500 m (200 m higher), where the temperature was as high as 9 °C. The average wind speed was close to 40 km/h,” they stated at Ars, where in the morning in places where the wind blew, they measured a significantly higher temperature than in unventilated areas. So at 8 a.m. it was -1 in Gačnik, 8 at Maribor Airport, and 10 degrees Celsius in Ptuj.
Strong wind
Gusts of south-west wind can reach speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour today and on Tuesday night, especially in the northeast, even in the lowlands. According to meteorologists, the wind is caused by a significant difference in air pressure. Over western and northern Europe there is a cyclone centered near Scotland, where the air pressure is around 975 hPa, and in the east of the continent there is an anticyclone with a high air pressure of 1030 hPa.

Tomorrow, the south-westerly will weaken and cease, in the afternoon the northerly wind will already blow in the northern half of Slovenia. A weakened weather front will linger over us on Wednesday night and during the day. Cloudy weather will prevail, especially in the southern half of Slovenia, it will rain more often. Some rain will probably also fall on Thursday afternoon or evening, when a cold front will pass us, which will bring dry and cooler air again in the heights, Ars announced.
