The Spanish government closes a website for donations to those affected by DANA due to signs of fraud

BarcelonaThe Spanish government has provisionally and urgently suspended the domain of the website ayudavalencia.es, intended to make donations for those affected by DANA, due to indications of fraud. The authorities have taken this decision after the Provincial Information Brigade of Valencia of the National Police received a complaint which claimed that a fraud was being committed, as donations could be made with Bitcoin cryptocurrencies.

In a statement, the Spanish government, together with the security forces, has activated the blocking of the domain so that no more donations can be made. Red.es, an entity attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Civil Service, has asked for the collaboration of the main telecommunications operators in the State in order to speed up the blocking of this website and prevent people from are victims of this type of cybercrime.

The Spanish government is asking that, in these moments of confusion, citizens check the aid channels through which they make donations to collaborate with the reconstruction of the areas affected by the storm in the Valencian Country.

Along these lines, the Spanish government points out that a new section on the Moncloa website has been made available to citizens, as well as new accounts on social networks (@InfoDanaGob) in order to offer truthful, verified and official information about measures and aid for those affected by DANA. It is also used as a channel to offer the number of victims, the deployments of the Spanish Security Forces and Bodies or the situation of mobility with transport and the affected infrastructures.
