The Star Wars KOTOR Remake project is still alive and moving forward

Of the large number of games based on the Star Wars universe, KOTOR (Knights of the Old Republic) is, without a doubt, one of the ones that has left the best memories to those who enjoyed it at the time (a group in which I include myself). Its sequel, Knights of the Old Republic II – The Sith Lords, was also very popular, although it is true that it was rushed to market (two years after the original title), which resulted in it being felt incomplete, although despite this it was very, very enjoyable.

It left such a good taste that, years after its initial release, We saw how years later it made the leap to other platforms (first to Linux and macOS, and later to Android and iOS, where a sequel also landed some time later), and rumours of a possible remake have long been in the air. Not to mention projects like the sadly cancelled Apeiron, which aimed to rebuild KOTOR from scratch using Unreal Engine 4.

All this changed When, in 2021, it was made public and official that Aspyr Media was working on the long-awaited remake. The news was received with joy by those of us who played it at the time, even more so because the studio already had previous experience with the series, as it was responsible for adapting it to Linux and macOS, and as a user of KOTOR and KOTOR II on Mac (having played it on PC for many years). However, soon after, bad news began to arrive (in many cases rumors, of course) about delays, cancellations, etc. Some time later we learned that development was moving from Aspyr Media to Saber Interactive, and then… well, I don’t think it’s necessary to remember the situation of Embracer Group, right?

So things seemed to be discarded again, but no, it seems that there is light at the end of the tunnel. And according to we read on IGN, Saber Interactive is currently focused on the development of Star Wars KOTOR Remakeand the information is completely reliable, as Tim Willits, CCO of the company, has confirmed it in an interview with the media. However, don’t expect much more information, as there isn’t any at the moment.

Right now, we are focused on development. We look forward to sharing more when the time is right. There you go, brother“, are the words quoted by the media to to reactivate the expectations of those of us who are waiting for this remake like fresh water in MayThe problem is that, of course, after so many years of waiting for it, it is impossible not to receive these comments with some suspicion, since there have already been several occasions in which we have known that it was in development. However, we will have to get optimistic again and cross our fingers, to see if this time it is the good one.
