While fans have just discovered the excellent fifth episode of Skeleton Crew this Christmas morning, we learned that the series Andor just broke an impressive record!
Andor: this impressive record which will spark debate
The year 2024 is about to end, and fans of Star Wars discover the episodes of the series every Wednesday since the beginning of December Skeleton Crewwhich pays a vibrant tribute to the productions of Amblin Entertainment. Founded by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy in the early 1980s, the American studio profoundly changed Hollywood entertainment cinema, thanks to small nuggets such as Gremlins, The Goonies, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park or even ET, the extraterrestrial. The series Skeleton Crew invites us to discover the extraordinary adventures of a band of children lost in the galaxy far, far away.
Very qualitative, this new series is one of the series Star Wars highest rated on Rotten Tomatoes, and is second only to Andor: a Star Wars storythe prequel series to the film Rogue One by Gareth Evans, the second season of which is expected on April 22, 2025. Often considered the best series Star Wars – in front even The Mandalorian ! -, the series Andor is eagerly awaited by fans, who are impatient to discover the new adventures of rebel Cassian Andor. And it seems that The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm Ltd. are aware of it.
This is what confirms a recent report published by Forbeswhich reveals that Disney has allocated to season 2 ofAndor: a Star Wars story with a budget of 290.9 million dollarswhich would make it the most expensive project in the history of the license Star Warsfilms and series combined. For comparison, Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker would have cost around $275 million. A truly gigantic sum, which would exceed the budget of the last seasons of Game of Thrones and the series House of the Dragon. Always according to ForbesDisney reportedly spent $645 million for the two seasons ofAndor. In comparison, the first season of Skeleton Crew would have cost $120 million.
In his article – all in all quite interesting -, Forbes questions the reasons for these production costs which seem disproportionate, and accuses Disney of being totally out of control. The American media recalls thatAndor is far from having broken audience records; nothing would justify such an extravagant budget. If we can expect a season 2 more epic and more spectacular than the first, Disney has little chance of seeing its series profitable on its platform.
