SFK supported 12 projects out of a total of 32 applications for support for the production of minority co-productions in the amount of 20 million crowns.
Among them are five documentary films and a new film by the Czech director and screenwriter Petr Václav, who lives in France, entitled Mozart in Paris. The range of directors ranges from award-winning creators with international renown to debutants representing the emerging young auteur generation. SFK spokesman Jiří Vaněk informed ČTK about this today.
“There were more excellent projects than could be meaningfully supported. I must state that the permanent underestimation of the amount of the allocation in the call unfortunately does not help the development of international cooperation and greater involvement and competitiveness of our producers and creative professions within the international market,” said SFK Council President Marta Švecová.
Václav’s film, which is a co-production between France and the Czech Republic, depicts the young musical genius’s unsuccessful attempt to break through on the music scene in Paris. SFK supported it with 3.5 million crowns. He is a co-producer of the film for the Czech Republic company Mimesis Film, which also produced Václav’s last film, Il Boemo, about the composer Václav Mysliveček. It won six Czech Lions in 2022, including those for best film and direction.
SFK supported the Finnish-Czech-Danish co-production with the same amount of 3.5 million crowns The kidnapping of the president director and screenwriter Samuli Valkama. It is a satirical black comedy showing the fragility of democracy. Full-length animated film Suzanne director couple Anaïs Cauraová and Joëlle Oosterlincková received 2.3 million crowns from SFK. The film about the doctor Suzanne Noël, who worked in Paris and Copenhagen at the beginning of the 20th century, is being co-produced by France, Belgium and the Czech Republic.
Slovak-Czech co-production psychological drama Anna director and screenwriter Marek Škop received support of two million crowns, as did the full-length feature film Interest debutant Hana Hančinová. The Slovakian-Czech-Hungarian co-production follows the story of runner Anabela, whose life is changed by one report from a race.
Short animated film directed by Anna Mantzarisová I want you they supported the council with the amount of 1.5 million crowns. Bulgarian-Czech short film Coddiwomplethe metaphorical story of a small bird that turns into a human, received 200,000 crowns.
In the appeal, the councilors supported five documentary films with the same amount of one million crowns. Three of them – Time to intervene director Vitalija Manský, Generation American director David Borenstein and Queens of joy directed by Olga Gibelinda – deal with the current war conflict in Ukraine.
Document Valley of the Widows directed by Miro Jelok and Katarína Jonisová, brings the fate of the inhabitants of a small Transylvanian village destroyed by copper mining and toxic waste. Spanish-Czech-French document Ash, directed by Oier Plaza Garcia, follows the fate of a Spanish citizen who was deported during World War II to the Hradištko concentration camp near Prague.
