When the Kia EV9 went on sale in Finland, a sporty GT version was also promised. Now it has been revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Kia EV9 GT is one of the few cars presented in Los Angeles that will also be sold in Finland.

Of course, the connection between a three-row minivan-like SUV and sportiness can be questioned. In any case, the basis is the same as the smaller EV6 GT, meaning that each axle has a powerful electric motor.

Compared to its smaller sister, the power of the EV9 GT is a bit limited, as it remains at 370 kilowatts. Kia has not given a reason for reducing power. Acceleration time to 60 miles (96 km/h) is 4.3 seconds. Reaching the familiar 100 km/h speed takes two or three tenths longer.

The platform has been developed to meet the increased power. Electronically controlled adjustable suspension is standard, which also takes into account the functions of the steering and brakes. The driving modes are the usual Normal, Eco, Sport and My Drive, but you can get the wildest ride by pressing the lime-colored GT button on the steering wheel.

Sportiness is emphasized in an electric car with a kind of unnecessary virtual shifting system. It imitates a manual gearbox, which even “limits the running speed”. Hyundai uses a similar system in the Ioniq 5 N, where it is used with vanes on the steering shaft. Sounds that seem real belong to the whole.

At this stage, power consumption or operating range have not yet been announced. This much is known that with a sufficiently efficient fast charger, the energy level of the driving battery can be raised between 10 and 80 percent in 25 minutes.

Like Kia’s other GT models, the EV9 GT has also been changed a bit sportier both in appearance and interior. The car has 21-inch rims, through which the larger brake discs and green brake calipers are visible. The bow has active air intakes, a slightly modified front grill and a little green effect color.

The cockpit features sporty seats designed for the GT, upholstered in alcantara. The mood lighting is different from other EV9 versions. In addition, the GT badges remind us that this is a model that differs from the masses.

The new Kia EV9 GT will hit the US market in the second half of 2025.
