The story of an Apple Watch that was in the ocean for 18 months and still… works!

The easiest way to search for lost Apple devices such as iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, is to open the application Find My and you will get the help you need at that exact moment.

Find My led to the unlikely recovery of an Apple Watch belonging to a man named Jared Brick who for He was at the bottom of an ocean for 18 months. Brick had bought two Apple Watches, one for himself and one for his son, to help them stay in touch during a family vacation to celebrate his son’s 11th birthday.

After arriving in the British Virgin Islands, Jared used his Apple Watch to go scuba diving. The watch was useful for keeping track of how many minutes Brick was submerged in his dives, some counting in water depth up to 50 meters and the Apple Watch survived this underwater use.

On the last day in the Virgin Islands, Jared was jumping off rocks and swimming in a relatively shallow spot of water. Shortly thereafter, he realized his Apple Watch was no longer on his wrist, and upon opening the Find My app on another Apple device, reported his watch as missing. A year and a half later, in December 2023, Brick received a call from a local resident near Virgin Gorda who informed him that his Apple Watch had been found on the beach.

The guy who discovered Jared’s Apple Watch charged the device and the lost message appeared on the screen revealing Brick’s phone number. The man who found the watch took a photo of the Apple Watch and sent it to Brick. The device was then mailed to its owner, who fatally believed he would never see his watch again.

As a tech and media guy, Jared created a YouTube video that tells the entire story of an Apple Watch that was lost in the ocean for 18 months, found on the beach, loaded and shipped 3,600 miles by its owner. Brick, in his video, not only thanked Jonathan for finding and returning the Apple Watch to him, but also thanked Apple “for the amazing construction and technology of the watch.”
