Between myth and legend, the collection of cars of Sultan of Brunei it is among the most curious and talked about among enthusiasts. For decades it has been said that the rarest supercars on the planet were part of this collection, with a few faded and discolored photos to accompany the stories and support their veracity.
Few actually know if, how many and which cars are parked in the sultan’s garage, but an Instagram account called brunei_cars_2001 seems to have revealed some of the prized pieces in the possession of the royal family.
A gold mine
In truth, the collection was made by the sultan’s brother who, according to local news, later sold it to the government following some financial scandals in the late 1990s.
We’re talking about an assortment of thousands of carsalthough the exact number is unknown. As shown on the Instagram profile, you can see McLarens, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Porsches, Bentleys – lots of Bentleys – and much more. And we’re not talking about “ordinary” exotic cars like a Ferrari 360 or a Porsche 911. Here we see three McLaren F1s, three Formula 1 cars, another small “fleet” of Bentleys and an assortment of Porsche 959.
After seeing some Bugatti EB110s and other McLaren F1s, here are the Ferraris. Plus eight F40 (some of which feature exclusive customizations), there is also an LM.
The Instagram account contains 95 posts in total, but each post has multiple images attached. This is by far the largest “leak” we have had on the Sultan of Brunei’s collection and it may just be the proverbial tip of the iceberg.
But we still have many questions left. According to rumors, these photos date back to 2001 approximately, and would have been taken by an auction photographer, at least according to our colleagues at Engine1 Argentina. Therefore, we may find ourselves faced with cars that have found other owners in the meantime or that no longer exist. That’s why this collection is so intriguing.
