In the fall of 2024, the Helsinki police started a preliminary investigation into gross tax fraud, in which the suspect avoided hundreds of millions of euros in taxes.
After starting the investigation, it became clear to the police that the suspect had left Finland. Based on the investigation team’s inquiries, it became clear that the suspect had probably left very valuable property in Finland.
– The police searched a home in Espoo, where around 20 valuable wristwatches were found in the possession of a bystander. The purchase prices of the most expensive watches had been over 400,000 euros per piece. Most of the watches are Rolex, says the head of the investigation, the criminal inspector Harri Saaristola.
According to the receipts and the expert, the total value of the watches was more than 2.6 million euros.
The suspect tried to give an image of a wealthy lifestyle in the videos
A significant part of the watches had been bought in Finland, and some had been acquired from the United States. The suspect had brought mainly Rolex wristwatches with a total value of approximately 5.3 million euros from the United States to Finland.
– Watches were presented in the suspect’s YouTube broadcasts, where the suspect also markets self-made virtual currencies. Apparently, by presenting the watches, he tried to create an impression of wealth around him. The goal was possibly to convince investors that they too can get rich, says investigation director Harri Saaristola.
During the preliminary investigation, in addition to the watches, other criminal assets were found. The police confiscated millions of euros from the bank account as collateral and froze virtual currencies from the possession of a foreign service provider.
