The Teaching Train includes visits to the Railway Interpretation Center and the Space of the Metric Way in Martorell

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has started the activities of the Train of Educationa pedagogical program aimed at students of all educational cycles, from Kindergarten to Baccalaureate and Training Cycles. As part of the program, guided visits are made to different FGC facilities such as the Martorell Enllaç Railway Interpretation Centre, the stations on the Barcelona-Vallès and Llobregat-Anoia lines, the Vallvidrera Funicular or the Center Operative de Rubí (COR).

The Education Train aims to work on the importance of using public transport, as well as to spread the rules of civility and safety. More than 26,000 students have participated in the activities over the last eight years, 2,600 during the 2023-24 academic year.

With this initiative, the company collaborates with teaching professionals in their educational work, providing them with activities and didactic materials that are useful when developing activities in accordance with the school curriculum; and generate activities and didactic materials for the different educational cycles that allow them to learn about and experience content related to public transport, both in the classroom and beyond extracurricular activities.

Visits to the Interpretation Center and Space of the Via Mètrica de Martorell

The Teaching Train consists of four activities, one of which is theEvolution and history of the train. Discover the evolution of the railway. It is a guided activity at the Railway Interpretation Center at the Martorell Enllaç station in which the history and evolution of the train and the impact it has had on the transformation of society are explored.

It includes a visit to an FGC station on the Llobregat-Anoia line, the train journey to the Martorell Enllaç Center and an attractive, didactic and educational exhibition at the Interpretation Centre. It is aimed at Kindergarten and Primary students.

On the other hand, in this new edition, during the 2024-25 academic year, the visit to the Espai de la Via Mètrica de Martorell will be included in the program of activities of the Tren de l’Ensenyament, once the works of adaptation of the historic vehicle depot to accommodate visits by schoolchildren. The action completes the originally conceived project and will allow the ship to reach its maximum potential as a teaching space and make it more accessible.

The works being carried out by Ferrocarrils consist of the construction of a three-metre-high loft inside the ship which will allow it to expand its useful surface of 177m2 and offer a better experience to visitors, who will be able see the vehicles from a higher height as well as visit exhibitions located on the same loft. To guarantee its accessibility, two stairs and a ramp will be installed to access it. The action includes the development of the exterior spaces attached to the building with the extension of the access pavement to the nave and the equipment of a small picnic area for school visits.

The Espai de la Via Mètrica, located next to the Martorell Central station, houses about twenty locomotives, cars and wagons that served the Llobregat-Anoia line throughout the 20th century, both for passengers and goods , and which bear witness to the evolution of rail transport in Catalonia.
