Last year Tesla announced it would build a new factory in Mexico’s Nuevo Lein state, just across the US border. Now, however, those plans appear to have been put on hold thanks to the possibility of a new Trump presidency.
Elon Musk, who has clearly stated his support for Trump, said the possibility of Trump imposing tariffs was the immediate reason behind the suspension of construction.
I think we have to see exactly how things will turn out after the elections. Trump has said he’s going to put heavy tariffs on vehicles made in Mexico, so it doesn’t make sense to invest heavily in Mexico if that’s going to happen. We kind of have to see how things will go politically,
