Elon Musk didn’t lie, we had to wait until 2025 to discover the new Tesla Model Y, its restyled version. The manufacturer finally says more about this redesign called Juniper. Its marketing should first be Chinesewe can still expect that the Old Continent will be able to benefit from it over the coming months. The publication of the characteristics in China allows you to learn more about this new version, and the modifications made. Five years after its launch, the electric SUV is entering a new era. Sales were starting to fall, fewer vehicles were sold in 2024, the manufacturer wants to return to the forefront with this 2025 version. But what is changing?
A new design
The Model Y benefits from a small overhaul of its exterior design. The bodywork does not require a complete renovation, the vehicle retains its characteristic lines. It still seems that Tesla has chosen to abandon the protuberance of its nose. With this small facelift, the revisited Model Y uses fewer body parts. This change should help reduce road noise. The front of the Model Y also benefits from the notable addition of a light strip. This new feature is reminiscent of one of the specific features of another flagship model of the company: the Cybertruck. At the rear, this Juniper version benefits from a “diffuse reflection light”, compared to more traditional lights previously. Note that Tesla promises an improvement in aerodynamics and thus a 5% range gain. Finally, the rims have been revised to provide a better road experience. Tesla promises that these modifications allow its vehicle to be ever quieter.
Nothing new under the sun of colors, the range retains its signature shades. White, gray, blue or red, the new Tesla Model Y is sober. Only one new color is available, it replaces raw black. Chinese customers will thus be able to treat themselves to a dark gray model if they wish. For the moment, we do not know if these are the shades that will also be offered in France when this update has taken over the territory. Europe often benefits from new colors, we will have to wait a little longer to discover which ones will be offered to motorists in our green lands.
A redesigned interior
If the Model Y’s facelift is rather discreet on the outside, the interior benefits from a major update. First, Juniper integrates a light bar similar to that of the new Model 3. The objective is to offer ambient lighting that changes according to the driver’s moods. Moreover, the manufacturer is upgrading the materials used to ensure passenger comfort. Speaking of comfort, the Model Y finally uses a seat ventilation systemwhich has become legion on vehicles in this price range. We can also note the use of a insulating glass for a better acoustic experience in the passenger compartment. At the rear, we can note the presence of a new 8 inch touch screen which allows you to watch films or adjust the temperature in the cabin. The main console maintains its size, but displays smaller black borders for larger display size. For the moment, the marketing date of this vehicle remains a mystery. Production began in China, in the Shanghai factories ahead of the first deliveries. In France, you will probably have to wait until spring.
