the thinnest Z Fold ever

Expected for many weeks, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is now official. This folding smartphone arrives just a few months after the Galaxy Z Fold6, a model presented on July 10 in Paris alongside the Galaxy Z Flip6. Since then, rumors have been rife regarding the arrival of a third folding model this year from the South Korean manufacturer. The latter finally took the floor in his country of origin to formalize an improved version of his 2-in-1 device.

A Galaxy Z Fold6, but much better?

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition stands out from its predecessor on several specific points, starting with its design. With a thickness of 10.6mm and a weight of 236g, it outperforms the current Galaxy Z Fold6 by 1.5mm and 3g. It also becomes the thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Fold in the history of the range.

Faced with ever-increasing pressure from Chinese manufacturers, these adjustments are important for the manufacturer. They allow Samsung to reposition itself in the race for finesse, even if the South Korean giant remains far from the record of the Honor Magic V3 (9.2 mm). The firm is not limited to a small regime and is making technical improvements to its famous folding smartphone.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has a 200 Mpx main sensor, compared to 50 Mpx on the standard model. Still equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it increases to 16 GB of RAM and does better than its predecessor (12 GB of RAM). This gain should help the smartphone with multitasking and Galaxy AI features linked to artificial intelligence. This new model adds an 8-inch internal screen with a 20:18 aspect ratio, surpassing the 7.6 inches of the Galaxy Z Fold6. It features the largest internal screen in the series while the secondary screen increases to 6.5 inches in 21:9 format, compared to 6.3 inches on the base model.

Galaxy Z Fold SE: what the Galaxy Z Fold6 should have been

Bigger, thinner and lighter, this Special Edition model outperforms the Z Fold6 in every way. The manufacturer is making significant improvements to its flagship model launched during the summer. Changes that we would have liked to discover on the Galaxy Z Fold6 and which confirm that Samsung tends to be satisfied with incremental improvements.

The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition has everything – or almost everything – to be better than the Galaxy Z Fold6, but you won’t be able to buy it. Indeed, Samsung is currently content to announce marketing in South Korea from October 25. The upgraded folding smartphone will be available for 2,789,600 won, or approximately 1,870 euros. A price comparable to that of the Z Fold6, with the possibility for first buyers to obtain discounts for other Samsung products (Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra).

This smartphone could also arrive in China, but it is unlikely to see it elsewhere. It gives us at least a glimpse of what the Galaxy Z Fold7 could offer, a smartphone that could arrive before summer 2025 to help Samsung fight internationally against Chinese models.
