Have you ever heard of the neurofibromatosis ? This very rare genetic disease is caused by mutations in certain genes. It results in of the growths under the skin and/or bone abnormalitiesas well as café-au-lait spots on the skin. Other symptoms such as lack of coordination, weakness, abnormal sensation or vision or hearing problems may also appear. Rest assured, we are not here to give you a medical course, but to introduce you to the main character of one of A24’s upcoming films, A Different Man. This drama tells the story of Edward (Sebastian Stan), a man suffering from neurofibromatosis who dreams of becoming an actor.
In love with his neighbor, Ingrid, he immediately accepts the experimental medical procedure that is being proposed to him that could cure him, hoping to seduce her with a new face. Now a handsome guy, he reinvents himself as Guy, declares Edward dead, and sets out to conquer the world. Guy becomes a real estate agent and sleeps with Ingrid, but things soon go south. Ingrid writes a play for her “deceased” friend Edward, which “Guy” auditions for. But it’s Oswald (played by Adam Pearson, an actor who really does suffer from neurofibromatosis) who wins the role. and seduces hearts… A role very far from that of Bucky Barnes, who unfortunately will not be on the bill for New World Order.
