Romania categorically defeated the representative team of Cyprus on Monday evening with a score of 4-1 in the last representation of the national team this year. It was also the last match in the League of Nations, after which Romania won Group C2 with 15 points and promoted to League B of the competition.

The tricolors started the match strongly and opened the scoring in the 2nd minute. Valentin Mihăilă made an excellent pass to Daniel Bîrligea, who penetrated between two defenders and shot precisely on the ground, beating the goalkeeper Demetriou.

In the 17th minute, Ianis Hagi had the chance to double the advantage, but his free kick went just wide. After only two minutes, Hagi was close to the goal again, but his shot deflected by Bîrligea went over the bottom line.

Romania consolidated its advantage in the 42nd minute, when Răzvan Marin took advantage of a wrong rejection by the Cypriot goalkeeper and sent the ball into the net.

Cyprus managed to reduce the difference immediately after the break, in the 52nd minute, through Pittas, who took advantage of an unfortunate deflection by Drăguşin. However, the visiting team could not maintain the rhythm, and the elimination of Laifis in the 77th minute for the accumulation of yellow cards unbalanced the match.

With an extra man, Romania forced the offensive, and Răzvan Marin managed to “double” in the 80th minute, with a superb shot from outside the box, after a corner executed by Mihăilă. Just three minutes later, Florinel Coman closed the scoreboard at 4-1, finishing from Ianis Hagi’s cross in front of the goal.
