The Turkish press insists on provocative reports about the cancellation of Despina Vandi’s concert

Reactions from the Turkish press continue for Despina Vandi’s withdrawal from a scheduled concert in the Fountain (Cesme) of Izmir due to the political message that the municipal authorities wanted to convey by hanging a huge banner of Kemal Ataturk.

In fact, two of the largest newspapers in the country continue for a second day to deal with the event that caused great tension.

In a similar tone was the publication of the nationalist Turkish newspaper of the Gray Wolves AKSAM which speaks of “brazen, shameless Despina”.

It is noted that the issue was dominant in the country’s newspapers yesterday as the incident took place on Wednesday (17/7).

The Chronicles

Despina Vandi became the target of the Turks after the cancellation of her concert in Cesme, Izmir on Wednesday night 7/17, which was organized by the Turkish Education Foundation (TEV).

The popular singer was then severely attacked by both the concert organizers and the Turkish media. In fact, Despina Vandi’s social media was flooded with negative comments from Turkish users, the vast majority of whom wrote that she should not return to their country.

On the part of the artist, it was requested that the poster of Ataturk be moved to another part of the event and that a Greek flag be placed next to the Turkish flag in its place, which the organizers refused.

“I would never sing in front of a picture of the slaughterer of the Greeks. I asked for his photo to be removed and for a Greek flag to be placed next to the Turkish flag,” the singer said in a statement.

This decision to cancel the concert awakened nationalistic reflexes in Turkey, which the mayor of Cesme also triggered with her harsh statements.
