The match between the Romanian national football team and Kosovo was abandoned at the score of 0-0, on Friday evening, at the National Arena in Bucharest, in Group C2 of the League of Nations, after the visiting team withdrew from the field in the min. 90+5.
The match, which was a few tens of seconds away from its natural end after the additional time granted by the referee, ended grotesquely, with the Kosovo team leaving the field for no plausible reason, despite the referee’s attempts to get the visiting players to stay on grass.
After an interruption of about 70 minutes, the Danish referee Morten Krogh returned to the field and whistled the end of the match only in the presence of the Romanian players, a verdict to be given by the UEFA Disciplinary Committee.
Kosovo will play against Lithuania on Monday at home, a match before which the German coach Franco Foda declared that UEFA’s decision regarding the match in Romania is secondary.
“Recent events will not be a problem. We played very well against Romania and now our focus is on the match against Lithuania. The team has a lot of confidence, and today we will have the last tactical preparations. Of course, fan support is very important to us.
We sent a clear message: Kosovo has its own identity! It doesn’t even matter what UEFA’s decision will be. Racism has no place in stadiums and it is important for a small country like Kosovo to stay united. The decision we made was the most important, that matters the most,” Franco Foda said at the press conference.
