The United Nations and JCDecaux deploy the “My Safety Advice” campaign in France

Every year, the toll is staggering around the world: road accidents kill 1.19 million people and seriously injure more than 50 million. “Cis the number one cause of death and injuries among young people aged 5 to 29. Road accidents represent a real sleeping pandemic”explains Jean Todt, the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Road Safety, during a press conference organized in Neuilly-sur-Seine this Thursday, January 16.

At his side were – among others – present Jean-Charles Decaux, general manager of the outdoor communications specialist JCDecaux and Valérie Pécresse, president of the Île-de-France regional council, to present the Nations’ global poster campaign entitled “My Safety Council” (#MakeASafetyStatement, in English) and whose launch in France is scheduled for January 16.

A deployment in 80 countries

While it has already been deployed in more than 40 countries, such as Belgium, the United States, Japan, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates, the campaign must be displayed, by end of the year, in 80 countries and 1,000 cities thanks to a global partnership with JCDecaux. “This is 100% free support that JCDecaux provides in the many countries in which we are established because we have made this subject of road safety the group’s major global cause”explain Jean-Charles Decaux.

The objective of these different actors is to reach out, through this campaign, to as many people as possible, including motorists, pedestrians and cyclists: “Our products do not affect major highway networks but affect transport networks, whether in metro stations or airports, as well as in urban centers where most of these tragedies occur. We therefore wish to raise awareness among as many people as possible in places where they might not expect it.”continues the general director of JCDecaux.

The campaign is part of the New Decade of Action for Road Safety, the objective of which is to halve the number of road fatalities by 2030. This aims to reduce the factors of risk, particularly in urban areas, and to guarantee that pedestrians and drivers can circulate in complete safety.

16 international ambassadors

Sixteen global celebrities and dozens of national figures, such as Olympic champions, have joined the initiative to support the application and respect of road safety rules. “It may be opinion leaders, influencers or personalities who, through their career or activity, speak to all generations and particularly the youngest. It was also necessary that this panel of ambassadors faithfully reflect our society through gender parity and representation from all continents.”says Jean-Charles Decaux.

Thus, PSG star Ousmane Dembélé, F1 driver Charles Leclerc, Oscar-winning actress and UNDP goodwill ambassador Michelle Yeoh, tennis legend Novak Djokovic, singer and musician Kylie Minogue, motorcycle racer Marc Marquez , top model Naomi Campbell, actor Patrick Dempsey, musician Youssou N’Dour, actress Julie Gayet and football legend Didier Drogba lent their image to warn of the dangers of the road.

The messages shared by these celebrities, built with the support of the Publicis group, include wearing seat belts, driving at an appropriate speed, wearing a helmet, not sending written messages while driving, not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as well as respect for pedestrians and cyclists.

For the Île-de-France region specifically, partner of this operation, the launch of the campaign “My Security Council” is part of its strategy aimed at halving the annual number of deaths in the region. “Each year, a little less than 300 fatal accidents are identified in Île-de-France. This is still too many and we are therefore investing to redevelop the infrastructure and also aim to halve travel by car or motorized two-wheeler. by the end of the decade”, confides Valérie Pécresse. And in total, 540,000 digital spots from the prevention campaign will be broadcast on JCDecaux screens located in Île-de-France for two weeks.
