The United States may decide the future of Nvidia AI chip exports in a few hours. The restriction also applies to the Czech Republic, which the European Commission does not like.
The United States is about to make a really big decision related to importing Nvidia AI chips into the world. The White House issued a security declaration and announced that the company’s AI chips Nvidia they won’t get to some countries as easily as they used to. “The United States must act, American technology with AI use must not fall into the hands of enemies,” is short and concise. The goal is to keep very powerful AI chips out of the hands of countries that would be very close to producing dangerous weapons of mass destruction or cyber operations.
It is planned divide the world into three categories. It probably won’t surprise anyone that the first of them, which are not affected by the restrictions, includes North America, but we can also find part of Europe here, for example countries like France, Great Britain, Italy or Germany. The Czech Republic and Slovakia are in category number 2that is, we will get the chips, but with a limitation. The same would apply to Slovakia, Poland, Austria and practically all of South America and a large part of Africa.
However, redistribution is not liked European Commission. She does not agree with the categories and in the official article she expressed great disapproval and stated:
We believe it is in America’s economic and security interests for the EU to buy advanced AI chips from the US without restrictions. The American decision may divide the EU into two camps.
Unsurprisingly, the biggest restrictions apply to countries like Russia, the DPRK or China. However, Nvidia continues to supply China with chips, however modified so that they do not lose performance, but limit the speed of communication.
