The US completely bans ‘connected’ cars from China and Russia

The United States of America has decided to ban the sale and import of connected or autonomous cars from China, and Russia is also mentioned, although vehicles from that country generally do not come to American soil.

Communication technologies and programs such as Bluetooth, cellular, satellite and Wi-Fi modules are cited as sufficient reason to ban cars. It is about technology that is standard equipment in today’s modern cars, he says HAK magazine.

In addition, the law prohibits automated driving systems that, we say, allow a car to drive autonomously at a high level without a driver behind the wheel. Starting in the 2027 model year, the software that enables these functions will be banned, and starting in 2030, the hardware will be banned, which means a ban on the cars themselves.

“These restrictions will help address national security risks posed by connected vehicle technologies from some countries, especially China and Russia,” the White House said in a statement.
