Police and Chhatra League clashed with protesting students demanding quota reform in Mahakhali of the capital. The clash started around 6pm on Tuesday.
Students were seen protesting by setting fire to tires on the road. On the other hand, police and Chhatra League threw brickbats and tearcells to remove them from the road. As a result, traffic on that road is closed.
It was seen on the ground that the students were protesting by sitting next to the Mohakhali railway line on the Tejgaon-Banani road since morning. Apart from Titumir College, students from various educational institutions gather there. They stopped the train. After a long time the train traffic was normal but the police tried to remove the students from the road. Chhatra League also gathered in it. Brick-pelting and chases took place between the two groups. When the situation went out of control, one side stood on the railway line and started pelting stones at the students. Currently, students are protesting by burning fire.
So far six people have been killed in clashes in different parts of the country.
Meanwhile, BGB has been deployed in six districts including the capital to keep the situation under control. The districts are – Dhaka, Gazipur, Chittagong, Bogra, Rangpur and Rajshahi.
At last around seven in the evening, in the face of resistance from the police, the quota agitators moved away from the Mahakhali main road and took position on the railway line. But the railway is closed.
