The fact that the post of the chairman of the National Council belongs to the Hlas party according to the current coalition agreement does not change, nor will it change. This was stated by the press department of the party for TASR in response to the weekend appeal of President Petr Pellegrini for the election of the speaker of the parliament.
“According to the current coalition agreement, the post of Speaker of the Parliament belongs to the Voice-Social Democracy party, and nothing has changed, nor will it change,” the coalition party said.
She once again noted that even if this post is not filled is not an obstacle for people living in Slovakia, since according to her the parliament works and laws are passed for the people, it is in her interest to elect the president of the Slovak Republic as soon as possible.
Over the weekend, the president appealed for the election of the speaker of the parliament. Pellegrini does not consider the vacancy of the head of the Slovak Republic to be a good sign. He is concerned by the statements of Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) that this is not a state priority. He thinks that it is a bad signal for the citizens of the Slovak Republic and for the rest of the world. The prime minister had previously declared that the election of the head of the National People’s Republic of Slovakia was not a priority and that the parliament was functional.
The post of speaker of the parliament has been vacant since April, when Pellegrini won the presidential election. According to the coalition agreement, the function of the Voice belongs. However, SNS head Andrej Danko also claimed it. Fico also talked about the fact that Danko could be the speaker of the parliament, but he respects the coalition agreement. The Prime Minister also declared in the past that the election will not take place until there is a firm agreement in the coalition on the new currency. Currently, its vice president Peter Žiga (Voice) is entrusted with managing the parliament.
